RISD, Summer 2022

This exploratory module of the RISD MArch Summer Foundations involves a 6-week analytical process of a chosen architectural photograph, a hybridized section collage, and the intersection of the two. This starting photograph is the interior of the National Memorial for Peace and Justice in Montgomery, Alabama, by MASS Design Group.

Week 1 - 2D Analysis

Collage of Ink, Vellum, Pastel, Plastic, and Tracing Paper on Bristol.

Week 1 - 3D Analysis

Collage of Wood, Cardboard, Plastic, Foam Core, and Acrylic Paint over 2D Analysis.

Week 2 - Organized Sections

Provided with 10 sets of 10 sections of shared typologies, creating four iterations of their organization within a grid.

For each iteration, a 2x2 square of sections is selected to hybridize by Punnett Square.

Week 3 - 3D Hybrid Section

Selecting one product of the Punnett Square, create a 3D representation and select two opposing camera angles.

Iteration B/D.

Week 4/5 - Connection

Combine the 3D Analysis (Week 2) and the 3D Hybrid Section (Week 3) and provide a point of connection between them.

Week 6 - Diptych

Juxtaposing photography with digital rendering.
