UC Berkeley, Spring 2022

In Spring 2022, UC Berkeley launched the course ENV DES 131: Community Processes— a student-volunteer program to mentor high school participants through a community-based architecture project and all of its project phases.

This marked the beginning of our mentorship journey as the first activity that introduces the design field and builds trust between the mentor and mentee.

With 3 instructors, 14 volunteers, and 10 high school participants, the course produced a greenhouse to the needs of BLK Girls Greenhouse, “a Black-woman owned plant & specialty home goods shop… a community space & an absolute vibe.”

This marked the final achievement of the course, as mentees confidently presented the final proposal to the clients.

The AutoCAD drawings below represent my personal contribution to the course. As one of two architecture student mentors, I took initiative to produce and polish all hand sketches and feedback into presentable sheets.

As a volunteer, aspiring activist architect, and mentor, this course was a journey of highs and lows.
